We would like to begin our meeting by recognizing the First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples of Canada as traditional stewards of the land.  The municipality is located within the boundary of Treaty 18 region of 1818 which is the traditional land of the Anishnaabek, Haudenosaunee and Wendat-Wyandot-Wyandotte peoples.

    THAT the Agenda of April 14, 2021 be approved as circulated, including any additions to the Agenda.

NOTE: In accordance with the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act and the Town Procedural By-law 2019-56, Sustainability Advisory Committee Members must file a written statement of the interest and its general nature with the Clerk for inclusion on the Registry.

    THAT the Minutes of March 10, 2021 be approved as circulated, including any revisions to be made.

     

NOTE: In accordance with the Town Procedural By-law 2019-56 fifteen minutes is allotted at the Meeting to receive public comments regarding Sustainability Advisory Committee matters included on the Agenda. The speaker shall provide their name and address, and shall address their comments to the Chair. Comments shall not refer to personnel, litigation or potential litigation matters, or matters that are a follow-up to a Public Meeting.


NOTE: Committee meetings are currently being held virtually to assist with social distancing with respect to COVID-19. Comments received from the public that have not been included on the Agenda will be read at the meeting by the Executive Assistant.

    THAT the Sustainability Advisory Committee receives The Blue Mountains Future Story - Draft Current State Report for information purposes.

a) Knowledge Series

THAT Council of the Town of The Blue Mountains acknowledges receipt of the January 13, 2021 Sustainability Advisory Committee resolution, as follows:

THAT the Sustainability Advisory Committee endorses the Knowledge Series Proposal as presented, and requests staff to facilitate the presentations accordingly;

AND THAT the Sustainability Advisory Committee requests Council to extend the Knowledge Series Presentation opportunity to all other Committees of Council, members of Council and Town staff in a manner deemed sufficient by the Town Clerk, CARRIED.

AND THAT, in accordance with the Committee's recommendation, Council extends the Knowledge Series Presentation opportunity to Committees of Council, members of Council, and Town staff in a manner deemed sufficient by the Town Clerk, CARRIED.

b) Sustainability Advisory Committee Schedule

THAT Council of the Town of The Blue Mountains receives the updated Sustainability Advisory Committee 2021 monthly schedule for information purposes:

  • 2nd Wednesday of the month at 9:00 a.m. (switch from the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 2:00 p.m.), CARRIED.

c) Seabin Efforts in Thornbury Harbour

THAT Council of the Town of The Blue Mountains receives the February 10, 2021 Sustainability Advisory Committee recommendation, as noted below:

THAT with respect to the "Seabin" efforts underway in the Thornbury Harbour, the Sustainability Advisory Committee requests that Seabin and University of Toronto representatives to provide an overview of the current program, an analysis of the materials captured, and recommendations for collection of "nonprint-source" materials;

AND THAT the Sustainability Advisory Committee requests Council, through Mayor Soever, to advise the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Cities Initiatives of the "Seabin" efforts underway in The Blue Mountains in the event that coordination and funding assistance could be achieved, CARRIED.

AND THAT, in accordance with the recommendation provided, Council directs staff to arrange for Seabin and University of Toronto representatives to provide an overview of the current Seabin program at the Thornbury Harbour, an analysis of the materials captured, and recommendations for the collection of "nonpoint-source" materials;

AND FURTHERMORE THAT Council requests Mayor Soever to advise the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Cities Initiative of the Seabin efforts underway in The Blue Mountains in the event that coordination and funding assistance could be achieved, CARRIED.

d) Polystyrene Recycling Options

THAT Council of the Town of The Blue Mountains receives the February 10, 2021 Sustainability Advisory Committee recommendation, as noted below:

THAT the Sustainability Advisory Committee receives correspondence item D.2 Diana Dolmer, on behalf of Climate Action Now Network Re: Special COW Report CSOPS.21.006 Polystyrene Foam (PF) Packaging Collection and Recycling for information purposes;

AND THAT the Sustainability Advisory Committee endorses further review of Polystyrene recycling options in The Blue Mountains, with outreach made to potential stakeholders and other municipalities, CARRIED.

AND THAT, in accordance with the recommendation received, Council directs staff to conduct further review of Polystyrene recycling options in The Blue Mountains, with outreach made to potential stakeholders and other municipalities, CARRIED.
